I have a defective SCD23 sitting on my desk.. it's a paperweight for the most part. I blogged about it in the past mostly to pass on the info that there's a sorta workaround to get the defective CCD working for a short while. It was ripe for a class action, and finally someone is doing it. Basically the CCDs came from a bad batch that were sold to multiple camcorder manufacturers. All other manufacturers issued a recall and offered replacements - except Samsung. Samsung replaced the ones that broke under warranty, but for those of us who rarely used the camcorders the CCDs didn't fail until after they were out of warranty... but the breakage was clearly from a manufacturing defect that Samsung knew about before our warranties ended.
So expect to see the ones on eBay get snatched up.. because if you're holding a defective SCD-23 when the class action dust settles then the odds are you'll be getting a replacement for that paperweight. And if you've got a defective SCD23 then get on that class action pronto like.
