I've been slammed with work lately, and saw the post from Mike Chambers this past week and was afraid that Apollo would show up on Adobe Labs right when I'm totally consumed with work.

The imminent release of Apollo is something that I've been kind of fearing for a while. It's been one of those deadlines that I've been avoiding. Why? Well I can't use Flex in my day job and I can't use AS3 yet (for another 9+mos). After looking at AS3 I realized that when I start learning it I need to be totally focused on it. There's such a huge difference between AS2 and AS3 that once I go AS3 it needs to be my primary focus. Dabbling in AS3 now would get in the way of my full time AS2 work. I haven't seen anything yet that says I'll be able to publish Apollo apps in AS2, so the release of Apollo will be a temptation to start dabbling in AS3.

Another reason is I've got several Central apps that I use just about daily. They're little tools that I built to help me in production work. Those will need to get reworked into Apollo apps. I haven't seen anything from Adobe about the end of Central from Adobe, but I'm assuming that at some point Central apps will cease to function. It's a minor issue for me since they're just little apps, but one more thing I'll "put on my plate".

But the main reason I've been fearing the release of Apollo is I'm just too busy. When it comes out I'll want to hole up in my office with the Red Bull and have some fun building little widgets and apps like I did when Central was fresh, and I just don't have that luxury these days. Busy is good though.

I can't make it to San Francisco for the Apollo camp. Ah well. East coasters always miss out, eh? Otherwise it might be a good way to get introduced to Apollo and get a jumpstart on it.
