I was watching a Discovery Channel show a few days ago and guy on the show talked about working in his sleep. That reminded me of something I've been meaning to blog about.. dreaming in ActionScript. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who does this, but just thought I'd put it out there.
Years ago I was talking to my buddy Thilo, who is from Germany, about what it was like to come to the US and be in a non German speaking environment. At the time he spent most of his time around Americans speaking English and could write poetry in English like a fiend. He said the strangest thing was waking up one morning and realizing he'd been dreaming in English. Well, one day about 5 or maybe 6 years ago I woke up and realized I'd been dreaming in ActionScript.
It only happens when I'm deep into Flash work and spending long hours working on a project, so it comes and goes (since I have a life and don't work mad hours all the time). When it happens though, it's just bizarre. You've probably had dreams where you're flying and at some point you realize you're dreaming. When that happens you probably either wake up (and swear not to eat ice cream, bananas, etc right before bed), or you keep dreaming and have some fun. Well, I've gotten to where I realize mid-dream that I'm in that weird place dictated by frames, gotoAndStop()s, and Delegate.create()s. It gets funky from there, and I wake up wishing I had some time to make this stuff real. A couple of groundhog days in a row would be really nice.
I've seen mention from coders of other technologies (Java, C++, etc) about their dreaming in code, and it's almost always in a "man, I'm working too hard and dreaming about work" kind of tone. Mine is usually quite different in that it's normally not related to my work at all, but rather my "normal" whacky dreams in a Flash format. The Flash dreams are usually more fun than the standard, real world type of dreams that I have. Throw a few shape tweens and some transparency into your next dream and you'll see what I mean. hehe..
Anyway, back to work..

Been there. Drempt that.
Yeah, same thing for me. I love my AS coding dreams. The last one I had was dealing with event bubbling. Really cool stuff.
