I was working at about midnight the other night when I heard my little VPN app scream that it'd lost connection.. I noticed that I couldn't get out to my favorite site and checked my DSL modem.... the status light was off. So the next morning I got up and saw it was still off. I called the DSL provider, we went through the standard power off/on stuff and the regular checklist and the guy in India said he'd overnight a new modem (it still hasn't gotten here..). A little while later I remembered something from my CCNA 1 class…

A couple of weeks ago I heard from a client (friend) that has a site hosted on my reseller web server and he said something odd - he said he could access his web site from work but not from home. There's a ton of things that could cause that so I stuck it in the back of my head and went on. Well the other night I went through and updated the mambo installation on that server and was testing it out when suddenly I could no longer get a response from it. I also found I couldn't get…

I just returned from a nice vacation South of Cancun and had a little excitement on the return flight last night. About an hour into the direct flight from Cancun into Charlotte a man got into a fight with another passenger and was subdued after a short struggle. The plane was diverted to Miami where he was taken off of the plane along with a female passenger. I saw it happen right in front of me, and on top of me actually, as the fighting at one point was happening in the empty seat next to me and I had…

I'm looking for a "media repository" or "file repository".. some sort of a library or gallery app for a web server that will allow a team of people to look at images, SWF files, Doc files, FLVs, etc in a searchable "gallery" sort of format. Bonus for having the ability to comment on the files, the ability to put a thumbnail or screenshot with non-image or media files (i.e. a custom screenshot to represent the contents of a zip full of junk). Having user groups would be needed to allow only certain people to add files and comment, while other…

I was mucking about on about 4 or 5 different things at once and ended up back at this post. I was really curious about what the "Godfathers" of Flash were up to when I read that post over a year ago, and it seems like the question has been answered and I apparently missed it. So here's what they've been up to.. "The Greenbox™ Home Energy Manager empowers homeowners to understand and manage their energy consumption. With knowledge of their energy use, consumers can take proactive steps to conserve energy, understand their impact on the environment, and save money.…

wow..... the announcement today from Adobe about opening the Flash Player up to the market to be placed on any imaginable device is just stunning. This is going to place even more demand on people with Flash skills as these companies begin to produce handheld devices using the Flash Player. The only thing in the press release that set off my BS detector was this.. "“The Open Screen Project will make it simple for Verizon and our partners to deliver rich mobile experiences to more devices,”" .. yeah, and how big of a fee will they charge developers before they…

Mike Chambers posted an update on his blog about the rebuilding-moving-updating of MXNA. I've been getting my fix from fullasagoog for a while since MXNA was beginning to be overwhelming.

Oh.. some random things.. Gregarius, Rubicon .. I've been having some fun with those.

I was just poking around looking for info on Flex and found that Adobe has info on how to put together a Flex Camp ( see the guide here ). And I’m wondering how much interest there would be in one of these in either Charlotte or RTP? I haven’t seen anything from the Charlotte Adobe users group on this, but maybe it’s in the works (it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a meeting..). It just seems like the mid-Atlantic gets overlooked for most conferences and the like (but the AIR bus stopped in NC!) and here’s…

I saw the recent post about the XSS vulnerability if a SWF was published from an old application (old news..).. here.. and it reminded me that a while back I was looking for a way to read the SWF metadata from within the SWF. I can't go into why.. but at the time I couldn't find a way to do it. I'm sure it could be hacked pretty easily but didn't see a direct and easy way to do it. Metadata can be read from the SWF header by a web server serving up the SWF by using PHP, ColdFusion,…

The other day (when I was finally getting out of a month or so of fog..) I wrote kind of (heh..) a rambling post and I got a couple of IMs from Phillip Kerman encouraging me to do "why" videos for a little therapy. lol.. yep. I'd looked at his "why" vids a while ago and laughed so hard I almost stomped on my dog (you know.. laughing, stomping feet, dog right at my feet.. ah.. nm) and so I listened to him. I don't think I have the time each day to devote to making the vids like he…
